Heretic + Hexen Reviving the Fantasy of Classic Cultation, Launched Today – Playstation.blog

Heretic 1994: Shadow of the Serpent Riders and its sequel 1995, Hexen: Beyond Heretic Forged New Frontiers in the first person shooter game. Feel these important games today with Heretic + Hexen, a collaboration between Software ID and Nightdive Studios that brings an upgraded release from the legendary game of Raven Software for new generations of players.

From the Sci-Fi Devil to Dark Fantasy

“As one of the original developers in the 90s, honestly, it is rather real to see Heretic and Hexen back like this,” said Brian Raffel, Co-Founder Studio and Co-Head of Raven Software. “We built the games in the Doom machine (1993) which were highly modified and tried to encourage boundaries wherever we could, add things like character classes, inventory systems, vertical goals … things that were wild enough for time.

“We are also fortunate to be able to work with our friends on Software ID, especially John Romero and John Carmack. The support and technology of their machine gives us the opportunity to build something different. There is something cool about knowing that this world still means something for people after years.”

Players start the journey through the hall filled with monsters, the arena laden with traps and mysterious nature in a unique combination of classic FPS battles with a dug upland which is inspired by a role game as a fantasy table game.

“Hexen Hexen and Hexen of the fantasy types that were common in the 80s and 90s PC games but have not been explored in the first person,” said Mike Rubits, senior programmer on Software ID. “There are many shooters with war, sci-fi, and aliens, but not many jokes and sticks.”

“Actually Romero’s idea to add character classes in Hexen – a truly step – really brought franchises to the next level,” Raffel said. “At that time, such an element of RPG in FPS was almost never heard. Every class had a weapon, statistics, and self -play style – The combination of fantasy roleplaying mechanics was risky, but that was successful.

The Hexen Hixen + Local Fold and Multiplayer Online Cross-Platform feature, the option for switching the “Tome of Power” soundtrack from Andrew Hulshult, the Accessibility Option all of which is new and improving the quality of life, the material behind the scenes at Raven Vault and many more. That’s not all: besides the previous expansion package released for original release, Heretic + Hexen also displays new content!

New content for misguided + hexen

“Two new episodes in Heretic + Hexen include the two games – ‘Faith Renewed’ is a new episode of the ‘Vestigues of Grandeur’ created in Hexen,” Rubits explained. “They followed the spirit of new episodes in our previous re-release: new experiences that use original technology, but are not bound by having to walk on a 30-year-old computer with a very small amount of memory.”

“During the planning phase, we think we only have time to do one or the other,” said Xaser Acheron, a senior developer at the Nightdive Studios, “And I realize that these are some of the fastest settings in the West.”

“I already know there will be additional content for Heretic + Hexen, so I start making a map in my spare time for fun,” added Samuel “Kaiser” Villarreal, a level designer at the Nightdive Studios. “When everything is Greenlit, I already have a map that is almost worth the whole episode.”

“Sure enough, each mapper produces almost all episodes of their own content, with community legend not Jabba donating several giant maps to complete the set. I also have to sneak in one of my property,” Xaser said. “Gamit paid off, but behind it was really not too surprising because the people were absolute power plants.”

Exploring the fantasy of classic FPS today

Whether you return to the Cronos mystical realm or set foot in its shadow hall for the first time, a joint team in Raven Software, Software ID and Nightdive Studios invites you to experience heretic + Hexen and inheritance that helps define genre.

“To fans – those who were in the early days and those who found these games for the first time now – thank you,” Raffel said. “Enthusiasm, modding, memory, and support you have made this world stay alive longer than we have ever imagined. Seeing the community still cares about this work after years meaning more than I can say.”
