Silent Hill F: Hands-ON-Playstation.blog report

Silent Hill F, SPIN-off Mandiri from the Silent Hill series from the Neobards developer, came to Playstation 5 on September 25. We recently had the opportunity to play games at the world premier event in Tokyo, Japan.

Psychological horror was set in the 1960s of the Japanese

The story began when Hinako left her house to run away from her annoyed father. Silent Hill F uses the same Over-The-Shoulder perspective as Remake Silent Hill 2 Bloober Team, allowing players to move the camera with the right analog stick. Sharing the same perspective with Hinako adds to immersion and tension of the game. When you look at the forest around it, you become very aware of the danger that approaches and feels the feelings of isolation and extraordinary traps.

Navigating a city that is stored in fog and survived the deadly horror from an excessive perspective

The sky was getting darker when Hinako approached a series of houses along the forest line, and mysterious fog descended. The authentic Japanese city of the 1960s, described in a clear 4K visual, aroused a sense of beauty and nostalgia. However, everything changed after you met Hinako’s childhood friend. The fog really swallowed the city, and “Higanbana” (Red Spare Lilies) began to bloom from the ground. Even worse, plants like tentacles start creeping and overflowing from the walls. The dramatic transformation of the city captivated me.

Navigating annoying and rotating roads in Ebisugaoka

Ebisugaoka features a series of narrow roads that are intertwined between houses. Blind angles and varying verticality create complex layouts, such as labyrinths. Unlike Silent Hill 2, there is no radio or item to warn you about approaching the enemy, so you must remain vigilant and alert to each sound.

The puzzles are closely related to the story

The puzzles are a decisive feature of the Silent Hill series, and they display prominently in this title. During our game, we can try various puzzles inspired by Japanese culture, such as finding the correct “EMA” (small wooden prayer tablets) or finding rice fields that match certain criteria. Many of these puzzles are very connected to the story written by the script writer Ryukishi07, and it is very interesting to know how they are related to the emotions and character identities.

Close combat demands fast thinking and strategy

Hinako is an ordinary Japanese teenager, so it’s not like the previous title in a firearm series is not an option here. Conversely, Silent Hill F has a heavier focus on close -range battles. During our demonstration, we got an iron pipe, sickle, dagger and polearm Naginata.

Combat displays new sanity mechanics and counterattacks to target vulnerable enemies. Pressing the R2 button during the battle opening combat activates the counter. This does not consume stamina, and if successful, the enemy will be torn down. You will see a special effect appearing on the enemy when you can run the counter. Although focus modes of consuming sanity, this situation can slow down time and create a longer gap, making it easier to provide surprise count. Also, when Hinako’s focus gauge is filled in he can release a strong focus attack with the R1 button, which causes significant damage. However, Max’s sanity is now reduced, making it more difficult to enter focus mode, so you have to determine the main moment to take advantage of this attack.

Supervise

Weapons at Silent Hill F have a level of endurance and will be faster faster. Make sure you bring a weapon or a backup toolkit to improve its durability. However, weapons such as dagger and naginata, which can only be used in other worlds, have no endurance and can be used for your heart content.

Face to face with a tough temple girl monster

This demonstration ended with an intense battle between Hinako and a strange monster that was dressed like a temple girl. Hinako called this monster “Sakiko” when he faced him in another world.

Maiden Shrine attacks wide range and will keep you remotely. This monster launched a long distance attack which made Hinako flinch while simultaneously disappeared to reduce his sanity. However, if you can find the monster right after reappear, you will have the opportunity to run and attack while it is vulnerable.

I walked away from my time with Silent Hill F who wanted to face a more frightening enemy and challenging puzzles, and explore the new area of the map when the game was launched on September 25 on PS5.
